The 1907 building has 5 load-bearing columns of Aurisina marble. One of these is in the bookshop, one in Janesich's jeweller's shop and three in Rustia draper's shop. This antique bookshop opened in 1914 and was taken over by Umberto Saba in 1919. In 1924 Saba employed Carlo Cerne and in 1938 (as a consequence of the racial laws) he left the whole property to faithful Carletto. In 1946 Saba came into possession of the bookshop again, making Cerne his co-owner, who would later become the only owner upon Saba's death in 1957. The old shelves hold precious volumes which are impossible to find in any modern bookshop, e.g. Saba's 1911 Poems or the first edition of his Canzoniere of 1921. There is also a rich collection of Italian and European classics.
